Supply targeting

Overview

With supply targeting, you can target specific publishers, domains, and apps. This helps to ensure the ads are displayed on platforms that align with your brand's target audience.

When configuring supply criteria, start with the publishers. The domains and apps available for selection are filtered based on general targeting criteria and the targeted publishers, for example:

  • When a specific country is targeted, the list of available domains and apps is updated to show only those with ad opportunities in the targeted country.
  • Similarly, when a specific publisher is targeted, the list of domains and apps is updated to display only those monetized by the targeted publisher.

Access

To access supply targeting, select Media Planning from the navigation menu. The supply targeting options will appear in the Supply section at the bottom of the page. You can also access supply targeting directly from the line item page. For more information, see Create line item: targeting.

Configure supply criteria

Configure publishers

To configure the publishers, follow these steps:

  1. In the Supply section, select Publishers
  2. Search for a relevant publisher.
  3. Optional: From the Sensitive advertiser categories dropdown, select the following categories:
  • Cannabis, THC, CBD
  • Alcohol and Tobacco
  • Gambling
  • Politics

As a result, the search will include publishers that accept ads in these categories.⚠️ Warning: all sensitive categories are disabled by default.

  1. Select a checkbox next to a given publisher.

Once you select the publisher, the Domains and Apps lists update to show only the domains/apps matching the selected publisher. Now, you can proceed to configuring them.

Configure domains and apps

Configure domains and apps manually

To configure domains and apps manually, follow these steps:

  1. In the Supply section, select Domains or Apps
  2. Search for relevant domains or apps.
  3. Select a checkbox next to a given domain or app.

As a result, your campaign will target only specified domains and apps.

Configure domains and apps in bulk

To configure domains and apps in bulk, follow these steps:

  1. Select + Add site list and then one of the following options:
  • Paste list: paste a list of domains/apps, either one domain/app per row or all domains/apps in a single row, separated by commas.
  • Upload list: upload a list of domains/apps in a csv or xlsx file, either one domain/app per row or all domains/apps in one row, separated by commas.
  • Select site list: select domains/apps stored in a site list created previously. For more information, see Site list targeting
  1. From Select your list selection mode, select either Include or Exclude. By selecting include, you indicate where ads will be displayed, and exclude, specify where ads won't appear. ⚠️ Warning: as a safety measure, if a domain or app is listed in the exclusion list, it will remain excluded, even if it was previously uploaded as part of an inclusion list.
  2. Select Import.

After importing your file, on the right of the Supply section, you’ll be able to see how many domains and bundle IDs match with Equativ's inventory. If the number is lower than the total number of domains or bundle IDs in your file, it means that some entries couldn't be matched to our inventory at the time of upload. These unmatched domains or bundle IDs will be automatically targeted by your deal once Equativ begins monetizing them.

As you narrow the supply criteria, the inventory insights update in real time. For more information, see Get inventory insights.

Ensure your file has the proper structure before importing it to avoid errors. Especially, check the following aspects:

  • If the first column contains domains and/or bundles. For example, in files exported from Maestro, the domains/bundle IDs aren't in the first column.
  • If the first column contains only domains and/or bundles.
  • If the file doesn't contain headers.

When you import a list of domains or bundle IDs and then select an additional targeting option afterward, the list will be removed. To avoid this, make sure to select all desired targeting options first, and use the Import option last.

Domain and sub-domain targeting

When targeting a domain, all of its sub-domains are also targeted.⚠️ Warning: this applies only to domains, not bundles. When Equativ receives an ad call from a given referrer, it first checks if the domain is targeted. If not, it will then check each of its sub-domains individually. To avoid targeting unwanted sub-domains, exclude the main domain from your targeting and include only the specific sub-domains you want to target.

Export publishers, domains, and apps

To export the list of publishers, domains, and apps as a spreadsheet, click the Export icon located on the right side of the Supply section. Additionally, you can download the list of publishers, domains, and apps from a deal's summary. For more information, see Keep track of deals.

Miscellaneous

  • Apps are displayed using the bundle ID followed by the app name, separated by a hyphen.
  • For iOS apps, the bundle ID typically consists of a 9-digit number.
  • Equativ supports uploading only one CSV or XLSX file at a time; uploading a new file will automatically replace the previous one.
  • After creating a default site list, it can be immediately selected in the Supply section of Media Planning. However, it might take up to 1 minute for inventory insights to update and reflect the site list selection.
  • When Equativ starts monetizing domains or bundle IDs that were previously unmatched at the time of upload, those new entries will be automatically targeted in your deal.
  • Domains beginning with "www" will have the "www" substring stripped before being stored in the system, for example, "www.example.org" becomes “example.org”.
  • If you target a domain, all its sub-domains are automatically targeted. However, if you target only a sub-domain, the main domain isn't targeted. For example, targeting "test4.com" also targets "review.test4.com", but targeting "review.test4.com" doesn't target “test4.com”.
  • Targeting specific directories within domains isn't supported. You can only target full domains, such as, “test4.com” or subdomains, such as,  “review.test4.com”. Targeting paths like "test4.com/review" isn't allowed.
  • Wildcards, such as “msn.*” aren't permitted in domain lists.
