Geolocation targeting
Overview
Geolocation enables ads to be shown to users based on their physical location. You can define targeting criteria manually or import a list of postal codes. Equativ relies on data from third-party providers to support geolocation targeting.
Access
To access geolocation targeting, select Media Planning from the navigation menu. The geolocation targeting options will appear in the Targeting panel. You can also access geolocation targeting directly from the line item page. For more information, see Create line item: targeting.
Configure geolocation targeting
Configure geolocation targeting manually
To manually configure geolocation targeting, follow these steps:
- In the Targeting section, expand the Geolocation tab.
- In the Set your location targeting field, select Equativ geotargeting.
- From the dropdown, select Country, Region, DMA, State, or City. ⓘ Note: you can only target one type of geolocation. For example, you cannot select both a country and a city at the same time. However, you can select multiple items within the same type, such as several cities.
- In the search bar, enter the name of the specific location.
Import the list of postal codes
To import the list of postal codes, follow these steps:
- In the Targeting section, expand the Geolocation tab.
- In the Set your location targeting field, select Import postal codes.
- Click Import postal code CSV.
- Upload a CSV file with the following properties:
- There must be one postal code per row.
- Each row must include the corresponding three-letter country code in ISO 3166-1 alpha-3 format, for example, "FRA" for France or "USA" for the United States, followed by the postal code, with both elements separated by a comma.
- Don't duplicate postal codes.
- Don't use whitespaces.
- The maximum number of postal codes in a file is 10 000.
This is an example of a CSV postal code file containing three rows:
FRA,75018
FRA,75019
FRA,75020
- Click Import.
As you narrow the targeting criteria, the inventory insights update in real time. For more information, see Get inventory insights.
Postal codes containing white spaces cannot be uploaded. In countries like the United Kingdom, where postal codes include spaces, you must truncate them accordingly. For example, instead of targeting the UK postal code "BS10 7", you must use "BS10". Note that this limitation reduces the level of targeting granularity.
