Content metadata targeting
Overview
Content metadata, mainly relevant to Connected TV (CTV) environments, describe the content in which impression opportunities are available. It involves using specific information about content to deliver targeted ads.
Access
To access content metadata targeting, select Media Planning from the navigation menu. The content metadata targeting options will appear in the Content metadata section of the Targeting panel. You can also access content metadata targeting directly from the line item page. For more information, see Create line item: targeting.
Configure content metadata targeting
To configure content metadata targeting, follow these steps:
- In the Targeting section, expand the Content metadata tab.
- From the Select the metadata type dropdown, select one of the following content metadata types: Category names, Genres, Context, Content id, Language, Channel names, or Network names.
- Enter the first value, for example "IAB1".
- Select + Add another value to add another value for the same content metadata type, for example "IAB2". ⓘ Note: the values within the same content metadata type are connected with "OR" logic.
- From the Select the metadata type dropdown, select another content metadata type, for example "Language".
- Add values for the newly selected content metadata type. ⓘ Note: the content metadata groups are connected with "AND" logic.
As you narrow the targeting criteria, the inventory insights update in real time. For more information, see Get inventory insights.
Categorization of content metadata types
The following table presents the categorization of content metadata types along with their corresponding value types.
Content metadata type | Content metadata type description | Targetable values* | Example value |
---|---|---|---|
Category names |
The IAB category associated with the content.
Tier 1 categories represent broad, high-level topics such as Automotive, while Tier 2 categories offer more granular sub-categories within those groups, such as Auto Repair or Diesel.
Always use IAB codes, not category names, for targeting. For example, to target the Tier 1 category Automotive, use the code IAB2. For more information, see column "Category code" in taxonomy Category Names. |
IAB codes from taxonomy "Category Names" | IAB2 |
Channel names | The TV channel on which the content is broadcast. | Channel names from taxonomy "Channel names" | ESPN |
Context | The context of the content. | Predefined values from taxonomy "Context" | Music |
Content Id |
A unique identifier assigned to a piece of video content, used for tracking and classification across multiple platforms. ⚠️ Warning: this feature isn't available for use. |
Any identifier | 12345, myidentifier |
Genres | The genre of the content. | Genre from taxonomy "Genres" or a custom genre | comedy |
Language |
The language of the content, usually targeted using language codes specified by ISO 639-1. For example, en is the language code for English.
To expand reach, ensure you target alternative codes for each language. For example, in addition to en, consider also targeting Eng, EN, and other variations. |
Language codes from ISO 639-1, as listed in taxonomy "Language", along with alternative language codes commonly used in the industry | en |
Network names | The name of the TV network. | Network names from taxonomy Network names | ESPN Inc. |
