Activate open auctions
Overview
To activate open auctions, you must create an RTB insertion where you specify the inventory to be monetized programmatically with open auctions.
Creating RTB campaign
Before creating an RTB insertion, create an advertiser and an RTB campaign as explained in Create direct insertion: create direct campaign.
Creating RTB insertions
In the insertion list of the campaign, click on New insertion.
General settings
- Name - name of the insertion

Ad type - select the impression type and the environment Web or App (apps using Equativ's Android/iOS SDK); the environment selection is not possible in case of the In-stream video and Audio impression types; the selection made here impacts the creative script template and the placements available for selection; available impression types:
- Display - ads on desktop/mobile websites
- In-stream video - video ads embedded in a video stream (e. g. pre-rolls); dedicated documentation here
- Native - ads with the same look and feel as the publisher site, often in-feed
- Out-stream video - video ads on desktop or mobile websites outside of a video stream (e. g. Video-Read); dedicated documentation here
- Audio - audio ads

Additional information
- Type for reports - assign a type to the insertion that is available as a reporting dimension; custom insertion types can be defined under Administration > Types of Insertions
- External ID - assign a numeric ID to the insertion (e. g. the ID this insertion has in a third party system)
- External description - assign an alphanumeric description to the insertion (e. g. the description this insertion has in a third party system)
- Priority - keep the preselected "Holistic yield" priorities which is recommended in most cases; holistic yield optimization generates maximum programmatic revenue while ensuring that premium campaigns meet their volumes
- Start and end date / Start and end time / Time zone - fill in the appropriate information
- Advanced delivery parameters - usually, these settings are not relevant for RTB insertions (more details in Create direct insertion: general settings and delivery and Create direct insertion: priorities).
Placement
- select one or multiple Format(s); once selected, the site/page/pack tree will update to show the sites/pages/packs where the selected format is available
- select one or multiple Site(s), Page(s) and/or Pack(s); note that the inventory you select here will be eligible for programmatic (RTB) monetization after you put the RTB insertion online
- use the Selected placements toggle to show the currently selected sites and pages only
Creative template
In the Creative template section, a creative template is preselected depending on the Impression type selected under Ad type:
- Display > Web - Classic banner (web)
- Display > App - Classic banner (app)
- In-stream video - VAST video (RTB)
- Native > Web - Easy Native
- Native > App - Native (app)
- Out-stream video > Web - In-read (web)
- Out-stream video > App - Video interstitial (app)
- Audio - VAST audio (RTB)
Available options:
- Pencil icon - access to the creative templates; Note: official creative templates cannot be edited because they are managed by Equativ exclusively and made available to all Equativ customers

Library - library to select an alternative creative template (more about the creative template library):
- Official creative templates - created and maintained by Equativ
- Custom creative templates - custom creative templates created and maintained by the Equativ customer
- Parameters - access to the parameters of the selected creative template; to get more details about the parameters of each creative template, search for its name in the search box of this Help Center; note that most RTB+ creative templates are documented in the specification article of their corresponding direct creative template; for instance, you will find the documentation about the parameters of the "RTB+ Default Banner" creative template in the specification article about the "Default Banner" creative template here.
- Custom script - option to serve additional code (e. g. additional tracking scripts, impression counting pixels, CSS etc.)
Targeting

Save and put online
Once you are done with the setup of the insertion, click Save and put online.
Having multiple insertions on the same placement (same site/page/format) is possible and required in some cases. However, if you have more than 6 RTB+ insertions eligible to be selected for one ad call, Equativ will select 6 of them randomly and send them in the bid request.
