Analyze report data with Instant Insights
Overview
Instant Insights is a real-time reporting tool that delivers data output as you compose your query. Data is typically refreshed every 10 minutes. While minor initial inaccuracies might occur, the system continuously recalculates to ensure that any data older than 5 hours is fully accurate.
If the financial metrics, such as revenue numbers shown on Instant Insights, differ from the numbers on the monthly invoice, the numbers on the invoice take precedence.
The general data retention period for Instant Insights, the Instant Report Builder, and the Reporting API is three months. This means the earliest possible start date for a report is three months prior to the current date. Data older than three months isn't retrievable.
Access
To access Instant Insights, from the navigation menu, select Reports.
Switch to Instant Report Builder
You can easily switch to the Instant Report Builder at any time without losing any of the current settings, such as selected time frame, selected dimensions, or metrics. To do this, select Instant Report Builder at the top of the page. For more information, see Build reports with Instant Report Builder.
Select time frame
Using date picker, select the following options:
- Define the time frame you want to report on. You can select either Custom (to specify exact start and end dates) or choose from predefined time frames such as Today, Yesterday, Last 7 days, Last week, Current month, or Last month.
- Select Days for daily granularity or Hours for hourly granularity. ⓘ Note: the chart will automatically adjust its granularity based on the selected time frame to keep the visual representation concise. For more information, see Time granularity rules.
- Choose a time zone from those enabled in your network. By default, the network’s default time zone is preselected. This setting is especially useful for companies with operations across multiple time zones. ⓘ Note: time zones with minute offsets, for example, Indian Standard Time [IST] or UTC+05:30 aren't supported.
Time granularity rules
To keep charts clear and easy to interpret, the time granularity automatically adjusts based on the selected time frame. The following table explains this behavior.
Selected time frame using date picker | Resulting time granularity |
---|---|
less than 1 day | per hour |
between 1 day and 15 days | either per day or per hour |
more than 15 days | per day |
Views
All metrics and dimensions are organized into Views. Use the menu in the top-right corner to choose from the following views:
- Programmatic: contains general dimensions and metrics. It is a default view.
- Data Marketplace: contains general dimensions and metrics and dimensions related to audience or semantic contextual targeting.
- Activation: contains general dimensions and metrics and dimensions related to the Activation module.
- Content Metadata: contains general dimensions and metrics and dimensions describing publishers' video content where ads are being placed.
Metrics
Select metric
The metrics are categorized into Video, Financial, Delivery, and Interactions. Select Metrics + to add new metrics. If needed, you can rearrange them by dragging each metric into its desired position.
Metric charts
For each selected metric, a chart with the performance of the metric over time is shown, along with the total value of the metric. You can hold the pointer over the chart to see the value of the metric for a specific day/hour.
For the latest, incomplete hour, the reporting charts might show a decline near the end. This happens because the incomplete hour contains less data than a full hour would. The chart will continue to update with data until a full hour is reached.
Available metrics
For more information about the available metrics and their description, see Report metrics.
Dimensions
Select dimension
The dimensions are categorized into Video, Ad Info, Quality & Privacy, Placement, Competition and Targeting. Select Dimensions + to add new dimensions. If needed, you can rearrange them by dragging each dimension into its desired position.
Dimension table
For each selected dimension, a table is shown with a column with data for the top selected metric, that is, the first chart on the left.
Expand table
Dimension tables display items with the highest value of the selected metric at the top. Each table shows the top five items. You can expand these tables to see up to 250 items, and all the selected metrics. To do so, click the expand button.
Filter dimensions
To set a filter in dimensions, click Filter and select the desired dimension. Then, select the actual values. Enter at least three characters to get automatic suggestions. The auto-suggestion of values is limited to values that have actual results. For example, an insertion for which there are no results won't be auto-suggested. You can also filter values in dimensions by enabling the according checkbox next to the value in the Dimension table.
The following rules apply for filters:
- multiple values of the same dimension are connected with the OR operator, for example: "Seat ID 123" OR "Seat ID 456".
- multiple values of different dimensions are connected with the AND operator, for example: "Seat ID 123" AND "Deal ID 123".
Available dimensions
For more information about the available dimensions and their description, see Report dimensions.
Sort tables
You can sort dimension tables by a specific metric. To do so, choose one of the following methods:
- Use the Sort by option, located in the top-right corner, and select the desired metric from the drop-down list.
- Click the chart of the desired metric. The orange horizontal bar indicates the metric currently used for sorting.
- Expand a selected table, and then click on the column header (or the arrow) of the desired metric.
Compare dimensions
For any metric, you can compare up to five specific items of a dimension. For example, you can display the gross revenue generated in multiple countries over the selected time frame. To compare data, follow these steps:
- On the right side, click on the expand button of the dimension of interest, for example, the Country dimension.
- Select the items you want to compare, for example, the countries such as United States, France, or Spain.
- Click the Compare button. ⓘ Note: if the maximum of five items is reached, you must unselect some items first to be able to select other items.
- Alternatively, click the Compare button right away. This will select the top three items in the list.
On the left side, the start of each metric will display a curve for each selected item of the dimension, distinguishable by color. You can hold the pointer over a curve to display a tooltip with the metric’s value, for example, €1000, at the according point in time.
Search in tables
You can search for items in the tables by their names or IDs. To do this, enter the name or ID of the item in the search box.
Compare time frames
You can compare data from two time frames. To do this, follow these steps:
- Select the first time frame as explained in section Select time frame.
- Enable the Compare checkbox. The UI will automatically preselect the comparison time frame; it is always before the first time frame and has the same length.
- Change the start date of the second time frame, if needed. The UI will automatically select the according end date based on the duration of the first time frame, for example, seven days each.
Once the time frames are set, the metric charts are updated as follows:
- Each chart shows the data for both time frames.
- The total of each metric is displayed for both time frames.
- The difference between both time frames is displayed in percent, for example, "+9%" or "-9%".
In addition to the updates in the metric charts, each dimension table now shows the percentage difference. The values remain based on the first time frame. To view the Change and % columns, expand the dimension table.
Share results
Once you are done with composing your query, you can easily share the results with other users. To do this, copy the complete URL including all parameters from the address field of your browser. You can share it with any user that has access to your network and that has the appropriate user rights to use Instant Insights.
